In 1971 Bardon Latrobe began a tradition of sending U12s teams to visit Georges River Football Club in Sydney, New South Wales. The club had been founded in 1960 by Mr. Jack McGowan and three teams entered the local Shire competition in 1961.
Each year during the July school holidays Bardon Latrobe U12’s travel to Sydney to play the Georges River U12’s and the Georges River U13’s travel north to play the Bardon Latrobe U13’s.
A fun packed tour of sight seeing of each city jammed between 3 nights of football makes this a must do event for our junior players.
Parents get heavily involved in the fund raising effort to send the team south and at the end of it, the memories the players have of their tour makes it all worthwhile. The tour provides a great opportunity to experience sport and life at a level many youngsters don’t get a chance at.
When the Bardon Latrobe U12’s play at Oyster Bay Oval many of our players, Coaches and Managers watch and reminisce with fond memories of the time they did their “tour of duty”.
